New WhatsApp status update features

WhatsApp is rolling out a new way for its iOS and Android users to “update their status and express themselves”.

“The new feature makes it easy to share creative text-based status updates,” said WhatsApp.

“The text-based status feature allows you to update your contacts in a fun and personal way.”

WhatsApp has taken Facebook’s lead by allowing users to customise their status update by choosing a specific font and background colour, or include links.

The company also outlined the following about it status updates:

• Control who sees your Status – In WhatsApp’s privacy settings, you can select from the following three options: “my contacts,” “contacts except…” and “only share with…”.
• See who has viewed your Status – Tap the eye icon at the bottom of a Status update to view a list of contacts who have seen the update.
• Reply to an update – When you view someone’s Status update, there is a reply button, letting you comment on any photo, video, or GIF. When you reply, your message will be sent in a WhatsApp chat with a thumbnail of the Status update.
