Linux Kernel 4.13 released
The Linux 4.13 kernel series has been released, with Linus Torvalds urging users to move to the new version.
Softpedia reported that the major kernel branch features numerous improvements and support for new hardware.
This includes support for Intel’s Cannon Lake and Coffee Lake CPUs.
“There’s also AMD Raven Ridge support implemented in the AMDGPU graphics driver, which received numerous improvements,” stated the report.
Other improvements include the EXT4 file system supporting more files in a single directory, up to 2 billion.
There is also support for the F2FS file system, better performance for HTTPS, and support for the SMB 3.0 protocol by default for CIFS mounts.
Linux kernel 4.13 is the latest stable kernel branch for GNU/Linux distributions, stated the report.
