Android 8.1 may let you SMS a Chromebook

Google’s developer beta of Android 8.1 features several new functions and placeholders.

One of them is the option to SMS a Chromebook, according to a report by Ars Technica.

A new APK called SMSConnectPrebuilt lets users set up “SMS Connect”.

“This is a feature that allows you to read and reply to text messages on your Chromebook,” stated the report.

It added that there is a Chromebook component to the setup, which can be accessed by typing “chrome://flags” into the browser address bar.

This lets you enable “Multidevice” features, including SMS Connect, but the function did not work when tested by Ars Technica.
