Flash 11 beta offers 64-bit support
Adobe has finally released a version of Flash with 64 bit support. While the company did demonstrate a 64 bit plug in prototype back in 2008, it dropped development around a year ago, with “significant architectural changes” as the cause. Other concerns, such as improving Flash’s performance and reliability on mobile devices has seen this project take a back seat until now.
In addition to the 64 bit support, version 11 of Flash includes Stage3D APIs, which provide hardware accelerated 3D rendering within Flash. The other big addition is support for H.264 encoding of real time video streams captured from a recording source, offering better compression for video chat.
