Microsoft releases old-school file manager for Windows 10

Microsoft has released the original Windows File Manager as a Windows 10 app on the Microsoft Store.

The application was released as an open-source project in 2018 and is now available to download.

According to the store listing for the Windows File Manager app, it is available for HoloLens, PC, Surface, and mobile devices – although the system requirements limit the compatibility of the app to devices running Windows 10 build 16299.

Windows File Manager was launched for Windows 3.0 in the early 1990s and offers a functional, unembellished interface for navigating device storage.

The project is maintained by contributors on the Windows File Manager GitHub repository.
