Office 2013 customer preview launched
Microsoft CEO Steve Ballmer announced at a press event in San Francisco, California today (16 July 2012) that the customer preview of the 2013 edition of Microsoft Office is available immediately.
Billed simply as “Office 365”, Microsoft announced in a press statement that the full line-up of offerings and pricing plans will be announced “this fall” (Sept-Nov 2012).
Ballmer said that the new edition of Office will be “at its best” on Windows 8, though it will run on other versions of Windows.
The new Office will use a “cloud first” design, and include social aspects as well, with Ballmer making specific mention of Microsoft’s acquisitions of Yammer and Skype.
Ballmer said that meetings and note-taking in particular are still non-digital activities that the new Office seeks to address. “Besides journalists, most people take notes on paper,” Ballmer joked.
