Microsoft Office 365 customer preview of 2013 Office edition launched

Ballmer said that the new edition of Office will be “at its best” on Windows 8, though it will run on other versions of Windows.

But of course, this is how Microsoft works. Say it will work better on Windows 8 since they want to give more incentive to upgrade.

I thought that's how everyone works? Why, when you upgrade all your products, would you not optimize them to work better together? Not doing that would just be stupid.

Office 2013 is NOT aka Office 365!

Get over to Paul Thurrott's Winsupersite and get informed.

I've adjusted the thread title to try and be more accurate. Microsoft wasn't clear in their language about what exactly they launched today (and I'm sitting at the event).

Seems like touch support sucks like electrolux and just once again confirms why you cannot combine a tablet interface with a regular desktop one. Also no XP support is bad and looks like collaboration still sucks in Office 2013.

I can't see why they would want to support an 11 year old OS. The ROI would just be too low to do that. From every review I've seen people are loving the collaboration, so not sure where you got that from. The touch support differs in the reviews though, I guess we'll have to see when it lands what it's like. Looked quite solid in the presentation, but that's not really anything to go by.

Well go to http://www.microsoft.com/office/preview/en and see for yourself ;)

Downloading mine as I am typing...

Watching it now :)

If anyone wants to see it in HD, check it out below.

Really hope it is cheaper since we will be using our bandwidth more now.

Just finished watching it, really interesting what they doing with the new version.

I found the Sharepoint Social feature to be quite pleasant aswell, can see alot of users (enterprise sector) making use of this feature. I think that PPi TS interface is super awesome, at one point i was trying to figure if it was a green screen but alas it wasn't and works really well.

MS has alot invested clearly so lets hope their Office Suite is as successful as the Windows suite, i read alot of users not wanting to switch to the new OS.

I still Don't understand why a tech site like this one does not bother to get the latest logos...

commom, keep up!!!

Any simple just regular Office15 install files to download? Even torrent's will do.

Bullshit. That 11 year old OS is still being used by most of their [-]captives[/-] customers, and therefore, where most of the money on Office licenses would be made. This is nothing more than forcing people to upgrade their OS.

First major fail. Access cannot open databases created by previous versions?
