Ster-Kinekor digital tickets in testing
A spokesperson for Ster-Kinekor theatres has confirmed a recent report on Htxt Africa that the cinema chain is testing electronic tickets.
The Ster-Kinekor app for Apple’s mobile operating system, iOS, was recently updated to support the unfortunately-named “Passbook” system on the platform.
Apple introduced its Passbook application in iOS 6, promising users a central place to keep airline boarding passes, movie tickets, and gift cards.
However, according to the Apple website, “The merchant must create a Passbook-enabled pass, barcode, or iOS app for the card, ticket, or service to work with Passbook.”
If you don’t see the option to add a card, ticket, or other service to Passbook, “contact the merchant to verify they support Passbook passes,” Apple advises.
When asked for more details on its digital ticketing trial, Ster-Kinekor Theatres marketing executive Doug Place said that the new features in their app are still in a pilot/beta stage.
Place said that they don’t want to reveal any more details for the moment as the final product may look very different to what is currently being trialled.
