Ster-Kinekor digital tickets being tested

I've seen this being used in Amsterdam at their movies there, also seemed to be iPhone specific. It seemed ok, just scan a barcode on your phone under a reader , tickets printed and off you go. Although i suppose it's alot of hoo-hah considering that swiping your credit card (after purchasing tickets online) is essentially the same.

So not quite seeing the advantage of this over normal online CC purchase unless they plan to actually use it at the door before entering the cinema (and getting rid of the complimentary "ticket tearer"). Kinda like having turnstiles (like at the gautrain stations). Even in Amsterdam you still pretty much had to print a ticket which are then checked at some point by a person, so it felt alot like a novelty feature to me.

Cinemas? Passbooks? What's this, an 80's party?

Heh, a very optimistic part of me read the headline as "Ster-Kinekor digital movie rentals being tested".

They'll probably get to that in 2050, when the rest of the world is streaming completely lucid dreams directly into their brains.

I used this on Friday night. Worked well. Didn't have to queue for a ticket in the ticket line and just scanned the QR Code at the entrance. No stub to tear off and seat numbers on my phone.

Hope it gets used more elsewhere.

how did u get the ticket onto passbook, i tried to scan the QG code with passbook but it does not work

U buy the ticket using the latest SK app. It will then automatically insert the ticket into your passbook. Not sure if signing/logging into the SK app is a requirement.
