DStv Explora for R99 per month

DStv has started selling its Explora decoder directly for R99 per month over 24 months, CEO of DStv Mobile Mark Rayner told journalists on Wednesday, 8 October 2014.

This comes to R2,376 paid in total over the two year period. Bought cash, the Explora currently costs around R2,000.

Rayner said that previously, and not formally announced, the group had used an external call centre to offer the decoder on a repayment plan over a two-year period.

According to reports, the previous deal was R149 per month for 24 months.

Rayner said that MultiChoice was always looking at ways to bring down the cost of its decoders, but at a retail price of R1,999 the Explora was already heavily subsidised as it costs about R4,000 to make.

He added that the R99 offer “is starting to take off nicely,” and noted that the company sees a big spike in sales whenever the group is able to reduce its decoder prices.
