Notebook providers limit initial Ultrabook shipments

Acer, Lenovo, Toshiba and Asustek are among companies that are reportedly limiting initial Ultrabook shipments to below 50,000 units as they test market demand according to sources in the industry.

While Apple has a firm hold on the Ultrabook market thanks to the successful Macbook Air and Pro ranges, Intel wants to encourage more partners to enter the market with higher volumes. Intel are set to host a conference on September 14 to discuss strategy and try to resolve the technology bottlenecks that current partners are experiencing.

Intel plans to have Ultrabooks account for 40 percent of global consumer notebook shipments by 2012, a difficult target to achieve as the notebook sector has experienced low shipment volumes thanks to the current state of the global economy.
