iPad 3 could feature thinner, lighter battery

According to the report, the new battery packs supplied by Simplo Technology Co and Dynapack International will be thinner and lighter than the current battery used in the iPad 2.

The cost of these new low profile batteries is reportedly 20 to 30 percent higher than the cost of the iPad 2 battery, though the new battery boasts a longer service life than its predecessors.

Reducing the size of the battery might mean more space for an improved version of the retina display to make its appearance in the iPad 3, though Apple could just be considering reduced side profile size for the next iteration of its highly successful tablet PC range.
