iPhone 5 LCDs now shipping
The next Apple iOS smartphone device, expected to be the iPhone 5, will feature a 4 inch LCD display produced by Hitachi and Sony, according to an insider.
The two display giants are set to merge their mobile display production business with Toshiba in spring of 2012 to form Japan Display Co, which will assumedly continue with production of iOS device display panels.
In addition to the 4 inch panel, both companies have also begun shipping the LCD display for the iPad 3 says the same insider. The third generation Apple tablet PC is expected to ship with a retina display sporting an image resolution of 2048 x 1536, double the current iPad 2 pixel count of 1024 x 768.
The higher resolution display is reportedly facing a few challenges though, as Apple is now looking for a new source to provide better backlighting for the extra pixels on the new retina display.
