Cell C 60GB data SIM packaging confusion
Cell C’s packaging for their 60GB data SIM carried a bold claim of “60GB DATA SIM,” one irate subscriber told the Advertising Standards Authority of South Africa (ASA), but didn’t explain that those 60 gigs are only made available in 12 portions of 5GB per month.
The user also complained that unused data isn’t carried over and that Cell C is unable to provide information as to how much data was used on prior occasions.
According to the ASA’s ruling on the matter, Clear Copy responded on Cell C’s behalf and spoke to the merits of the matter, but also said that as of 1 November 2011 Cell C would put stickers on the packaging in future that reflects the monthly breakdown.
All new packs going to stores already carry such stickers, the ASA’s report said.
The ASA accepted the undertaking on the condition that the packaging in question is not used again.
