U.S. files to extradite Kim Dotcom
Piracy accused Kim Dotcom faces a United States request for extradition, which could see the Megaupload founder face charges on U.S. soil.
The extradition hearing will only be held in August later this year and once it gets underway, it could still be months before a conclusion is reached.
In the indictment against Dotcom, U.S. officials allege that Dotcom and his associates made millions through Megaupload, an online hosting service that allowed global access to pirated movies, music and TV shows. The scheme has allegedly cost copyright owners over $500 million in damages.
Dotcom meanwhile claims he is innocent, and is a victim of U.S. law enforcement officials who are trying to placate “Hollywood”.
