Windows 8 debut in October?
Microsoft should finish work on Windows 8 “by summer”, which could hint at an October release date for the upcoming operating system (OS).
This is according to Bloomberg, who cite “people with knowledge of the schedule” as their source.
There are also reports that there will be fewer than five ARM devices running the Windows 8 OS at launch. In addition, more than 40 x86 computers will run the new OS at launch.
While Microsoft declined to comment on the report, an October release falls in line with previous predictions by analysts.
The software giant will however reveal details surrounding the Windows 8 release schedule at an industry event in April.
Microsoft plans to release the Windows 8 on ARM devices at the same time as it releases the system on x86 chips that are traditionally found in personal computers, according to a company blog post last month.
“Our collective goal is for PC makers to ship [Windows on ARM devices at] the same time,” wrote Steven Sinofsky, Windows president at Microsoft.
