Microsoft pushes HomeOS

Microsoft is in the process of testing and implementing its HomeOS, which is set to automate electronic operations within a household.

The research arm of the company says that its experimental operating system has now been deployed in twelve test homes.

HomeOS is said to control a house’s climate, security, smartphones, air conditioners and other appliances as network peripherals.

The system runs off a gateway computer and allows for energy monitoring, remote surveillance and facial-recognition.

A portal called ‘HomeStore’ will allow users to purchase and grow the list of features that HomeOS will offer.

While still a research project, the development has been in motion since mid-2010.
