Scientists want to “hack” into Stephen Hawking’s brain
Scientists from Stanford University want to analyse Stephen Hawking’s brainwaves using a black headband fitted with neurotransmitters, known as the iBrain.
The team will be lead by Dr. Phillip Low, CEO of Neurovigil, who wants to demonstrate the iBrain on Stephen Hawking.
“We’d like to find a way to bypass his body, pretty much hack his brain,” said Low in an interview with the Telegraph.
Low previously met with Hawking, who agreed to use the iBrain device for initial testing. Low fitted Hawking with the iBrain and asked him to use as much of his brain power as he could to imagine he was scrunching his hand into a ball.
The aim of the experiment was to see whether Hawking’s thoughts could be transcribed into words using a series of signals.
“We wanted to see if there was any change in the signal. And in fact, we did see a change in the signal,” said Low at the time.
