BlackBerry confirmed on Twitter earlier today (3 May 2013) that some of its customers “may be experiencing issues with BlackBerry services.”
MyBroadband forum members reported issues with the BlackBerry Messenger (BBM) service from around 14:30 on Cell C, Vodacom, MTN, and Virgin Mobile.
Not all users are affected, it seems, and MyBroadband’s own testing of BBM on a BB10 device (Vodacom) and BB7 device (8ta) showed the service was operational.
Asked whether they have an indication of when the issue might be resolved, BlackBerry said that “all relevant support teams are working to resolve the issue.”
“We apologize to any customers who may be affected,” BlackBerry said.
Update: BlackBerry provided the following update shortly after our article was published.
As an update, we can confirm that our technical teams have addressed the issue and BlackBerry services are returning to normal levels. We apologize to customers for any inconvenience. We take all service issues – no matter how small – very seriously and through constant monitoring and investigation we aim to ensure our network meets customer expectations.
