Why Telkom is worried
Statistics South Africa’s 2013 Post and Telecommunications industry report shows that fixed-line call revenue dropped from R16.262 billion in 2010 to R11.618 billion in 2013.
Telkom is the biggest fixed-line service provider in South Africa, and it is therefore no surprise that the company is moving into mobile and IT services for future growth.
The report is based on Stats SA’s census of enterprises in the post and telecommunications industry, and was conducted by post, email, fax, telephone, and personal visits.
The reporting period for the research was the financial year ended on any date between 1 July 2012 and 30 June 2013.
