Rain LTE-A vs Telkom LTE-A – Pricing and Data

Webafrica and MWEB have launched products on Rain’s LTE-A network, taking on Telkom fixed-LTE products.

MWEB and Webafrica advertised Rain’s services following Rain and Internet Solutions announcing their partnership to offer commercial LTE-A packages to local Internet service providers.

Package pricing

A comparison of package pricing between Rain and Telkom is challenging, as Rain’s services are sold on a month-to-month basis and exclude the router, while Telkom’s are 24-month contracts which include a router.

Webafrica and MWEB charge a “connection fee” for their Rain services, which includes a Huawei B618 router. Telkom’s contracts include a Huawei E5186 router.

Data on both networks expires at the end of a month.

The fixed-LTE packages sold by the companies are detailed below.

Out of bundle and top-ups

Webafrica, MWEB, and Telkom all hard cap you when you deplete your allocation of data.

Telkom then lets you choose whether to pay a R0.29 per megabyte out-of-bundle tariff, or buy another data bundle.

On Rain, you can choose between upgrading your package, or topping up.

Rain top-ups are valid for 30 days, and Telkom FreeMe Boost bundles are valid for 31 days from the date of purchase.

Standard Telkom bundles are valid until the end of the next calendar month.
