There has been a lot of threads lately where people look at budget cars and end up not being able to decide between the i10 or Picanto. While these cars are similar in a lot of ways there are a few things that gives the more established i10 the upper hand over the Picanto.

CAR Magazine agrees on this if you look at their latest issue with the top 12 best buys.

These are all things that are missing on all but the most expensive Picanto

i10 has colour coded mirrors and door handles across the range
i10 has height adjustable seats across the range
i10 has electrically adjustable and heated side mirrors across the range
i10 has electric windows all round across the range (no Picanto has that)
i10 has front fog lights across the range
i10 has passenger seat undertray across the range
i10 has rear window wiper across the range
i10 has steering wheel remote controls across the range

Beauty is in the eye of the beer holder - I think an i10 in blue looks way better than any Picanto. But besides that I choose bang for your buck ahead of looks.

Basically the same vehicle, prefer the Picantos looks though, especially inside looks and feels much better.

I honestly would never buy an i10 because they one of the most expensive cars to repair on the road.

not only that the i(in my opinion) stands for id10t.. they just left off a few digits, honestly every single i10/20 driver i have seen is a complete idiot at driving. maybe im just unlucky and always find the w@nkers on the road and they happen to either be in a taxi or an i10/20.

also this article shows the i10 as one of the most expensive entry level cars to repair, sure this was 2009 but as far as i know they still ridiculously priced to repair.

What car do you drive?

Is this you steering towards car finance again? :D

Looks are subjective, standard features across the range are not. No thanks, I'll take the i10.

The first i10 I drove was a fleet/car pool vehicle. Since then that car pool got a lot more i10s and the reason is simple, it is a cheap car to maintain and it has the best warranty in the price range. Therefore I going to have to say you are wrong. Go look at any rental fleet and you will see they go for cars that are profitable - that means cheap to keep on the road

LOL - nope - but knowing my paid off car is not worth much I'll probably get an i10 in the unfortunate event that it should become a write-off. At least I'll be able to get one without finance then :D

Busy trying to decide between these two models right now :/ Looking at the 1.2 high spec models. After driving both I found the i10 to be slightly more engaging on the road. Has anyone else driven both and noticed any differences? The Picanto's steering felt a bit strange, great little car to look at though!

The i10 on paper seems to have far more than the Picanto, except:

copy/paste

i10 - Audio system: Radio / CD / MP3 Yes Yes Yes
Picanto - Yes Radio/CD front loader with MP3/iPod/USB connection

Yes, in my biased opinion the picanto wins purely because of the bolded underlined capability. Everything listed in the OP to me is trivial, save perhaps the steering wheel controls. Furthermore I don't believe the warranty could be an issue, the size and scope of such a small car would lead me to believe that is it unrealistic for most people to travel over 100 000 kilometres over a 5 year period.

i10 has this...

You can just get a new radio.my sister put a lg radio with i-pod/usb in her tazz.

The Picanto wins purely by looks IMO.

I don't think the i10 1.2 has anything better then the Picanto 1.2 (perhaps only warranty& price). The Picanto has Bluetooth and 6 speakers. How about the i10?
