Hi, im not sure how much of this is known, but im going to show you how to share a single internet connection over a lan via a hub or wireless in vista(Sorry XP users, dont have xp installed anymore). The reason for writing this tut is cause a while ago my friend had a wireless connection in college, and we had a LAN setup, and wanted to play Vanguard(a MMORPG). Vista has made it amazingly simple to share your internet, be it a 3G card or your own wireless provider etc with a LAN connection. Even if you call your ISP, they might say that it is impossible to share the connection, but they simply lie. Heres all you have to do.
1. Click start, goto Network
2.Click on Network and Sharing Center
3. Click on Manage Network Connections
4. Right Click on the connection you want to share(this is the connection you dial)
5.Click on the Sharings tab and check the Allow Other Users to Connect... box, then under Home Network Connection, select the LAN connection to share the internet with.Mine is the Wireless Lan.
6.Click on Settings and select the types of services you want to share. Each box you check will bring up anoter window, just press ok to each window that is opened. If you're in a LAN with people you trust, select all the boxes, otherwise just HTTP for browsing etc.
7. Once you select all the services to share, click ok, then goto Options Tab and select PPP Settings.
8.Check the box for Negotiate Multi-Link for Single-Link Connections. then click OK, and OK to close the window.
9. Finally, make sure that your IP address for the LAN you are on(mine is Wireless) ends in 1(your IP will be xxx.xxx.xxx.1 eg 192.168.0.1). Do this by Right-Clicking on the Network connection and goto properties.
My properties button above is greyed out cause i need to restart, but from there, you just manually specify the LAN IP address and make sure yours ends in 1.
Then thatls it, any users on your network will be connected to the net.
