Vodacom makes use of "compression" and they "minimise" the size of your graphics. All pics you download via your browser look like crap. The same applies to uploading (but you can at least deactivate it on uploads.)

They currently have no way of telling you how much data you have left, so you could burn your fingers badly at R10/MB.

Don't go for 3G, it's a scam

Yeah that's true, even the cost is high for the speed they offer. The package has a simillar price compared to Sentech Mywireless 128k(can be faster and no cap) but Vodacom's 3G service I think it’s is 10 times worse than Sentech. Without the compression probably the speed it will be half of what you get. 1gig cap + R10/MB for each extra MB that is downloaded it’s really outrageous and a quick way to empty your pockets. The 3G package is a big scam Vodacom tries to pull out from its customers.

There is a BIG problem with the "vodafone" software logging the bandwidth usage on the 3G card. I have used over 100MB and it says I've used 15MB.

I have just spoken to Navier Price and Vodacom's CIC centre and he says vodacom has live stats, but they will NOT make it available to the end user.

Sounds like a money making scam to me! Potential buyers beware!

(I asked Nathier why he never bothered to reply to me via email - and he told me that email is to "tedious" for him. I as the customer sincerely apologise for having made life to difficult for him by expecting him to reply via email - not.)

Is this software they install on your laptop that counted 15MB? Or are you saying the live stats on their server said 15 and your own calculations were 100?

rabbiddog - Strange - as vodacom has no online stats yet. Their sats are not working. That is why they can't yet tell me what I have used for the last 6 days.

I am used DU metre to record my usage and it does not come close to what the vodafone software claims I used.

Compression and data measurement

Not totally dissatisfied with 3G, but then I am coming straight from dialup, and needed it for the mobility.

Hey mc721221, have you figured out the "compression" issue yet? My web graphics are looking really cr*p since I installed the 3G card. The graphic comes up with a message saying "... Shift+R improves the quality of this image. CTRL+F5 reloads the whole page." and if you do this, the image/page reloads with better graphics. Initial googling sent me into a virus scare, but I am happy I'm not infected. So, called Vodacom (waited for about 10 mins on the helpline) only to be told this was not a 3G issue, but something in my browser / display settings. I am now lost. Any ideas?

Also, when I asked Vodacom, they also told me they could not give me details on usage. Actually, sounded more like "would not" than "could not".

I do not get stats from Vodacom. I test their app (Vodafone's software) against my own usage check from logon and the two agree. I still want to do a full check on my tested total usage against their monthend billing.

trout6 - The compression is a Vodacom issue. They are actively enforcing it from their side.

I'm actually very angry about them not providing us with live usage stats. The guy I spoke to said they have live stats, but will not make it available. They are going to bill us at the end of the month but refuse to show us how they got to the total? WHF!

If their stats disagree with mine at billing time and they will not give me info, they can shove their contract.

I told Navier Price to take his card and cancel the contract when he said he won't give me stats - And his reply was "tough, it's not going to happen"

I did not see anything about compression in the contract - if you are looking for a reason to cancel.

he actually said "tough, it's not going to happen"?!?!

What an arse! How the hell do you say that to your CUSTOMER!?!

People, catch a freakin' wake up here. WE are paying YOUR salaries. You NEED people like US to make money! Wise up and stop treating your customers like dung!

I cannot BELIEVE the state of "service" in South Africa. It's atrocious!

He also was the one that told me that replying to emails (my emails) is to "tedious" for him.

He also lied. He said he would contact me today regarding the compression and bandwidth monitoring issue - which didn't happen.

He has contacted me when I have asked in the past. I was contacted by technical manager when I had a browser problem. What is his email address? If he wont answer mabe somebody else will. (I will be going to Vodaworld next week)

I don't have his email address as he has never bothered to reply to my emails that were forwarded to him by Vodacom Customer "Care." He called me as emails are to "tedious" - maybe he just can't spell ;)

look at this sh*t!

The Vodafone connect card software measurement is reliable and accurate. Please note that any connection made with the card without the dashboard will not secure an accurate measurement. We have confirmed that Vodacom Customer Care do not have direct access to supply you with usage records. However, should you notice any billing discrepancies you are welcome to exercise your rights via the "Information Act" with the relevant Service Provider concerned. Please let us know if you would like to proceed and we can arrange for the necessary documentation to be sent to you. The request will then be taken up with Vodacom's Risk Division.

Season's Greetings

I have heard that Vodacom video calls cost the same as voice calls. Can you confirm this mc721221 please.

If it is true, it gets a big thumbs-up from me.
