Understanding SNR and Attenuation Rates

Yes i suppose if using EU or USA servers it will make the world of difference for gaming.

Any idea why my 10mbps is syncing at this speed now?

Data Rate

1020 kbps up

MAX Rate

Could you post your line stats, specifically on what path it is? Would you mind looking for the word "interleaved"? I assume it was this.
If your line was stable/you game, I would suggest you get TelkomZA to set you back to fast path.

Speedtest reports ~9.6mbps

Should the interleaved be changed to fastpath? I'm on 10mbps ADSL, signed up for 20mbps VDSL but couldn't get it. Was wondering if I could get somewhere in the middle (15mbps?)

Can get 20mbps easy on that line, better than my stats. Will get 17.30mbps or somewhere around there. :)

The quality of my line stats has dropped recently. I previously had SNR > 29dB and max rate = 20Mbps. These are my current stats:
DSL Modulation ITU G.992.5(ADSL2PLUS)
ANNEX Mode ANNEX A
SNR Down 13.8 dB
SNR Up 10.8 dB
Line Attenuation Down 30.8 dB
Line Attenuation Up 16.7 dB
Path Mode Interleaved
Data Rate Down 10239 kbps
Data Rate Up 1022 kbps
MAX Rate Down 14652 kbps
MAX Rate Up 1143 kbps
POWER Down 18.8 dbm
POWER Up 11.3 dbm
CRC Down 0
CRC Up 0

How can I get the line quality improved? Log a line fault?

You most likely want to get your line set back to fast path rather than interleaved, message TelkomZA.
Also ask him about it.

You should be at 8mbps with those stats, why are you at 7Mbps? (Assuming you are paying for 8Mbps).

i'm suppose to be on 10 Mbps.. but it was Unstable according to Telkom... Downgraded from 10 > 9 > 8 > 7 ... 6 > 7

No you should have 10Mbps easily. At 27 attenuation you should be fine. I have 40 dB attenuation and I still sync 10Mbps stably.

Yup that is the Problem Line was installed Synced at 10 / 1 Mbps easily for the whole of Jan

Storm came in Feb and it started dropping, Telkom says nothing higher than 7 Mbps possible..

Those line stats tell a different story. Message TelkomZA and ask him to help you out.

I wouldn't rely on TelkomZA to help with anything. All they ever say is they've escalated your request to the correct department and you should get feedback sometime in the 100 years!

My line also went from 16.8-meg to 14.4-meg...now I'm sitting on 7.7-meg. It's a 20-meg line. If I downgrade to 10-meg, I might only get 2-megs out of it :(

Finally got a Response, will see what come from investigation so far it seems that there is some Physical Layer issues, "Un balanced Pair"

Split pair makes more sense ..... caused when the two conductors of a pair get separated from each other and then mixed up with other pairs that have been split.

Typically happens when someone is not skilled enough to work on multi pair cables. Can be quite difficult to correct. Typically happens when a cable jointer is rushed or interrupted in his task .....
