I currently have a 4 MB line and want to go up to a 8 MB line, according to Telkom's website my exchange can do 20 MB lines.
What does these stats tell you, will I be able to get full 8 MB line speeds?
BTW I'm using a TP-link Archer D7 which is a pretty decent modem router.

SNR Margin (dB)
19.5 6.6

Line Attenuation (dB)

My Stats I am on 10 mbps and Telkom shows 20 mbps ADSL and VDSL available but not according to Agents and TelikomZA.

My downstream attenuation is at 42dB but according to www.broadbandstats.co.za the exchange is only 2km away. Is there a problem with my line?

You do know that the line could follow a completely different path?
The shortest route to the exchange (following roads) would place me at just over 2km, but Telkom decided it would be better to roll out in a different direction and make a "sweep" towards me, so it ends up being 3km instead.

Code:
[B]Zertop's LineTool Results
Date/Time: Thu Apr 07 16:36:47 CAT 2016[/B]
[I][B]
Basic Report:[/B][/I]

Your packet loss was 0%.
Your average ping was 24ms.
Your maximum ping was 25ms.

Looking at your average ping, your line seems to be running perfectly.
It seems that your maximum ping is also good. If there are any issues, they most probably lie with your ISP

I suppose there is no fault then. Although I don't understand why my line keeps dropping on 6mb with an attenuation of 42dB.

What's the rest of the line stats?
I have 10Mbps and am slightly further from the exchange than you (according to attentuation):

Hi guys,

On a 20mbps VDSL line from VOX. In CPT. Billion 8800NXL router. My router stats show the following:

Downstream Upstream
Line Coding (Trellis) On On
SNR Margin (dB) 6.4 6.2
Attenuation (dB) 0.0 0.0
Output Power (dBm) 14.5 2.1
Attainable Rate (Kbps) 21436 1249

Getting around 16.8mbps down and 1mbps up. Although ping to JHB sitting at 58ms.

Any improvements I can make? The router gives and option to change SNR, but it doesn't work anymore for some reason? When I got it I could change it to 3, etc. Now nothing happens when I change it.

Anyone know where I can find the latest firmware?

Why does G.DMT mode reduce my downstream attenuation? Which one is a true reflection of my attenuation?

Why does G.DMT mode reduce my downstream attenuation? Which one is a true reflection of my attenuation?[/QUOTE]

Because G.DMT uses half the frequency spectrum compared to ADSL2+. Attenuation increases as frequency increases over copper (because it essentially a big coil...coils are low-pass filters)

ADSL1 = 1Mhz
ADSL2+ = 2Mhz

Which one is a true reflection ? Both.

How would you analyze the below stats from my D-Link router ???

I have been having problems with my line slowing down, when I phone Telkom to a port re-create it lasts for only a few hours and then slows down to 1/10th of my 2Mbps line.

Can anyone shed light on who I should be looking at for this problem Telkom or my ISP ???

Thanks in Advance

Doesn't look like your line should be having problems. Could you post a ping and a tracert to myBroadband ?
Could you also sign up for a free 1GB account from e.g. Afrihost, axxess or Crystalweb and see if the problem cotinues? Post a tracert from the free account as well. Sadly can't link it as I am on my phone.
