Sorry if this question has been asked before ....

I want to buy one of these ... anyone got it? Is it any good.

I have researched it and the reviews are very complimentary plus it fits my needs adequately.

My home theatre system reads media files from a usb but it is very slow and all formats are not supports so I was thinking of getting this to complement it.

Thanks in advance
superdad

specs are here ...

I've got one and I love it. Plays everything under the sun and havent encountered any problems yet.

Make sure that you order the new version - the WD HD Live - which was launced in October.

Thanks for the heads up ...

Do you know of a brick and mortar shop that I can buy this from ... ?

I also have one and it's great - no issues.

You can try Sybaritic - they're online, but you can collect once the order is placed and paid for - they're in Randburg (Bond Street if I recall)

If you know someone with a Frontosa account, you can also collect and pay - December pricing was R969 + VAT ;)

Also give PC International in Randburg a call - they can probably source it for you and then you can collect.

I have had the WD TV HD player (ex Digital Planet) for a while now had have no reservations in recommending it. Having to do a lot of travelling, it easily fits in my overnight bag and when local channels become incomprehensible it's easy to plug into the hotel telly. Together with a 2.5" HDD you can catch up on unwatched movies and sport. Handles pretty well every file. DivX have to be renamed *.avi and it doesn't do wmv files too well. BD movie rips (m2ts files) perform just like the real thing.

Just got back from the USA where I purchased the WD TV Live version (US$120 from Amazon.com). It took barely a minute to set up on my home network. There are several enhancements compared with the WD TV MD media player. Apart from the obvious, how else can you purchase a Bu-ray player for R900??

Compared with my old D-Link DSM 520 this is like being born again.

Ive got the live and its probably the best thing ever. Im stream all my media over my home network and even at 1080p and DTS it disnt hiccup once. Perfect and quick.

I ordered mine today, been playing extensively with a XTreamer, shall see when this one arrives...
