Sebiletso Mokone-Matabane holds a BA degree in Political Science, a Masters of Science degree in Radio & Television from Syracuse University and a Ph.D. in Educational Administration from the University of Texas at Austin in the USA. She has extensive experience in the broadcasting, film and telecommunications sectors in the United States and in South Africa. Her experience while in the USA included serving as a media specialist and instructional technology manager, executive producer and manager of a college cable television channel, teaching media courses at tertiary institutions, and serving as a production supervisor for public radio and a commercial television station.
In South Africa, she has worked as the Co-chairperson of the Independent Broadcasting Authority and Project Manager of the Tertiary Education Program Support. She also served as a member of a number government appointed task teams including the Communications Task-group on Government Communications, the Task-group on the Development of the Film Industry in South Africa, Selection committee for the CO.ZA Domain Authority, Selection committee for the board of the National Film and Video Foundation, Advisory member of the National Research & Technology Foresight Project, and participated in the development of the South African broadcasting and telecommunications policies and regulations.
Sebiletso current activities include serving as a member of the Presidential National Commission on Information Society and Development; the chairperson of the ICT Advisory Committee of the Women’s Development Banking, a member of the National Research Foundation’s Advisory panel on Information and Communication Technology, chairperson of the African Technical Advisory Committee (ATAC IV) of the United Nations Economic Commission on Africa, deputy chairperson of the University of South Africa (UNISA) Council, chairperson of Council of the Market Theatre and member of the South African Council for Space Affairs.
Mokone-Matabane has over 25 years of experience in the media and telecommunications industry in South Africa and the United Sates of America. She is currently the Chief Executive Officer of Sentech Limited.
