Blu-Ray movies flickering on 1080p

Its super annoying and I notice it in about every HD movie I've watched.

When watching Blu-Rays or even 1080p HD content from a hdd there are often scenes where parts of the picture flickers constantly. It doesn't always happen, just on specific parts.

The rest of the picture is totally fine, just areas of the background - generally a high contrast part followed by its extreme. Hard to describe, but for instance last night watching Avatar there is a scene in the beginning showing the spaceship from the outside. The ship itself looks fine, but the black space around the ship with stars flickers constantly several times a second.

Reading forums some say turning off/on the 24fps setting on the ps3 helps with this, but didn't make a difference for me. Also changed my resolution down to 720p to no avail..

I'm using a ps3 and Sinotec 42" FHD TV. Not the best make of TV so I wouldn't be surprised if that's the issue - but I'd just like to find out if that's definitely the problem?

The TV might be the issue, but you can only be sure if you connect your PS3 to a different TV.

all i can say is that i use my PS3 to watch movies as well (from BDDisc or HD contents through DLNA) in 1080 and 720 and I do not have this problem. I have in the past played around with the settings on my ps3 (like the 24hz options) but none of the settings ever did what you explained. maybe try another HDMI cable?

it is most likely your TV but you will have to test with another HDMI source on your TV or with another PS3.

I have a phillips 42" which gave a similar issue the tv has a setting called "motion plus" which when turned off corrected this. Check for a firmware update for the tv, you might need to find out who's hardware is actually in the sinotech box... eish
