Teazers' boss Lolly Jackson murdered
The controversial strip club owner has been found shot dead at a house in Kempton Park.
The motive behind the killing of controversial Teazers owner Lolly Jackson was not yet known, Gauteng police said on Tuesday morning.
"We don't know what the motive is at this stage.... and yes we can confirm that the victim was Lolly Jackson," said spokesman Colonel Euguene Opperman.
He was unable to say if any items were taken.
"It is difficult to say if anything was taken from the house, or if he [Jackson] was alone at the time...I just cannot answer that," said Opperman.
The strip club boss was gunned down in Kempton Park, east of Johannesburg, on Monday evening.
Police were at the scene into the early hours of Tuesday and by 5:30am, Opperman said no arrests had been made.
Police were informed of the crime when a man claiming to be the shooter telephoned them.
"Police got the call and then went to the premises and found the house locked. Officers summoned the owner from his business to come and open the premises," Opperman told Sapa.
Jackson's body was found with several bullet wounds.
The gunman left the scene in Jackson's Jeep Cherokee, and a manhunt was then launched.
"We cannot tell you whether he [the shooter] called from the same house because that will come out during the investigation."
No stranger to controversy
Emmanuel (Lolly) Jackson called himself: "The King of Teaze" in his autobiography grew up in South Africa though his early childhood was spent in the Congo, according to his website.
The site describes him as a "diverse and interesting man" who was "not afraid to take risks to succeed".
He started and ran a successful paving business and moved onto the Teazers empire soon after.
The site also describes him as "no stranger to controversy".
Jackson regularly appeared in the media -- his controversial billboards advertising the strip clubs often raised eyebrows.
His penchant for fast cars also landed him in hot water with law enforcement agencies -- he was caught travelling at 249 kilometres per hour in his Lamborghini in 2005.
At the time, he said he was en-route to church. He was again caught speeding earlier this year.
In 2008, he was cleared of fraud and immigration contraventions by the Edenvale Magistrate's Court.
Last year, he was again hauled before a courtwhere he pleaded guilty to assaulting a former employee.
Last month, he appeared in the Randburg court on charges of extortion, kidnapping, intimidation and crimen injuria. The case related to a fight with former stripper and Teazers dancer 23-year-old Yuliyana Moshorovs'ka and her boyfriend, Michael Kalymnios.
Despite the negative publicity he received, Jackson in February reportedly said that he was really a "good oke" who donated to charity.
"Many of his detractors would like you to focus on the negative publicity that follows him around, but those that know and love him will attest to the fact that often the story gets a little jumbled up based on what he does for a living," Jackson's website said.
