Hope someone can help.

I have a Dell Inspiron 6000 (2005) model and the fan is starting to make some serious noises. I contacted Dell and they say they do not carry spairs anymore as it is too old. The laptop still has a lot of use and I do not want to go through the schlep of reinstalling all the software if I buy a new Laptop.

Anyone has a spare fan or and old Inspiron 6000 lying around?

Thanks for your help.

Tried South African companies as listed abouve and they sent me on to LCD Consultants who said they would try and source for me, but I then got hold of PCHUB and placed the order. Cost me $40 and it will get here between 3-5 days. Lets see. Cheaper than a new Laptop. Part cost $10 and shipping $30 :)

Will keep you posted as to whether I get it or not and what the import duties will be.

saw the part I wanted listed with Partserve, the guys who do Playstations and thought cool cos I deal wth them, but they're R800-odd ex vat and I can find it online for R300 to R400

Some feedback on the fan:

Got it yesterday. No import duty and installed it this morning. While I was at it, I cleaned out the laptop. The heatsinks were totally blocked. The max temperatures reached were up in the 70's deg C and now the max is a cooler 47 with the average around 25. Plus I can hear myself think now.

Have never opened up a laptop before, but it is amazing what info one can get from Ehow as to what to do. Took me all of 45 minutes to replace the fan.

PCHUB works well and will use them again.

Next Laptop I buy will be one where the company carries spares for a lot longer than 4 years. Dell wakeup.
