Rules of Road at Traffic Circles

Are all SA motorists morons or just the ones in the Cape. If you in the Left Lane at a Traffic Circle with your indicator on to turn left you are olbliged by law to turn left at the first turnoff. At least 6 morons this weekend did not know that and I was just cut off by another moron in this bakkie doing the same thing. these idiots would never keep a licence for long outside of Africa.:mad:

Nope... this isn't an exclusive CT problem. I've been around the country... it's everywhere the same. Most motorists can't even navigate the complicated situation of a broken traffic light. :confused:
 
and what about the idiots that drive the circle the WRONG WAY (Tyger Valley/Durbanville) ?!? That really makes me mad.

Possibly same morons, seeing as I am not too far from there. Its something thats on the Learners test so why is it so hard to understand?:confused:
 
My understanding is that there are tow different types of 'roundabouts'. I recall from my learners that they are called either a mini-circle, or a midi-circle. The former is a slightly raised, possible to drive over (though not legally), painted platform tapered towards the road. The latter is a more solid, more raised and bigger, often bricked with plants and other decorasies in the middle, that will cause permanent damage to your vehicle. At the former you give right of way to the person already in the circle, at the latter you must wait for all traffic approaching from the left to pass before entering the circle yourself, and if you're in the left lane, that is a compulsory left turn or you indicate your intention to turn left then at the very next opportunity to turn left you MUST turn left, if you intend on turning right after a 270 degree turn, then you should indicate your intention to turn left after the second opportunity to turn left.

If i'm wrong, ive been doing it wrong for years. But I think thats accurate.
 
Yip, stupid traffic circle morons. Some lady stopped in the circle yesterday to let people in. :wtf:
 
what I never understand is why do people enter the double lane circle, in the right hand lane, if they no going around the circle to exit right, but rather like to exit left crossing over the people in the left lane which exit right also instead of using the left lane for the left and the right lane for the right exit....

Because if you try to exit right you'll be going around in circles... lmao
 
The worst offence on traffic circles IMO is people not understanding the concept of yielding to traffic coming from the right, when entering a traffic circle. Such a simple concept and yet so difficult for people to grasp.

Drive in the UK for a while and then you'll know all there is to know about traffic circles (or roundabouts as they call them).

You give way to traffic coming from the right in a circle, not the left - unless you're in the USA.
 
Guy I know who worked at some road traffic thingy (might've been an insurance type thing or road accident fund) said they didn't pay if you were in an accident in a traffic circle and used the circle incorrectly. You're supposed to be in the right-hand side lane all the time until you're exiting the circle. If you're in the left and cause an accident, you're at fault.

That's the way I have it as well. Strange the Arive Alive site suggests to cross to the left lane, when (AFAIK) you are not allowed to change lanes within a traffic circle. Strictly speaking, IF everyone follows the rules about circles with respect to lane choice, no-one should ever be in a position to cut the other person off. Thankfully the authorities are erecting signs at some circles to demonstrate (drawn picture) which lanes to use for whatever your final destination. Unfortunately, generally most road users drive with blinkers on and fail to notice or read the road signs.
