ICASA withdraws ITAs for scarce spectrum

Once again ICASA becomes the pawn of the large, existing Telecom players like MTN and Vodacom.
It was initially delayed to give Vodacom time to dispose of its interests in WBS so that it passed the "cant apply if you already have interests in a spectrum owning entity"

Now they have complained that the 30% HDI is a stumbling block. ONLY TO THEM!!!

I suppose they were going to work around it anyway but mark my words.

The new spectrum is going to wind up in the hands, or under the influence of, the incumbents and ICASA will have made a nice little bundle out of the auction.

So much for creating competition and looking after the SA users interests in the future.

ICASA, you are a worthless, toothless organisation that the SA Public could well do without.

Rather could someone please spraypaint "ICASA, you are a worthless, toothless organisation that the SA Public could well do without" at their door.

Then (or so I hope) they might notice it ...

Maybe read the article again.

One of the big issues with the proposed allocations was that the intended allocation would've resulted in an allocation that would not comply with any of the internationally accepted plans. Everyone industry-related argued against that, including people like rpm, dominic and the various telecom providers.

If the proposed allocation went ahead, SA would have been stuck with a non-standard implementation for many decades, resulting in slower and more expensive services.

Again, the only players that the allocation did not suit was those wanting to use it for LTE. The only players wanting to deploy an LTE based solution are the GSM based operators, viz MTN and Vodacom.

Even more proof that ICASA is a subsidiary of Vodacom.
