Comex has released his jailbreak for all iOS 4 devices including the iPhone 4. He tweeted a link to http://www.jailbreakme.com moments ago.

Unfortunately, the servers were immediately slammed and have gone down. We will let you know as soon as they are up. We will also have tutorials on how to use the jailbreak as soon as it can be downloaded.

Once you have jailbroken your iPhone on iOS 4 you will be able to unlock it using UltraSn0w.

Congratulations to comex and the iPhone Dev-Team for making this happen.

Help required with Iphone 4

Hey fxit_man

I have purchased 2 Iphone 4's from the states. The problem I have is they wont accept the vodacom micro sims. I have activated the sim with vodacom, but whenever I put the sim in the phone I get a "Invalid Sim" error on the phone. Do you have any idea why this would happen? I spoke to the seller overseas and he says the phones are fully unlocked and should work with any carrier.

Any assistance will be greatly appreciated!! I see you using one in this country, so thought you might have an idea.

Thanks

Craig

iPhones from the USA aren't fully unlocked, only European models and UK models are factory unlocked. So you might be in for some unlocking.

Hi Synaesthesia,

Thanks very much for your response. If they are not fully unlocked, does this mean they unlocked for carriers in the US only? And not carriers outside of the US??? Well I think the unlock should be released very soon, I really dont mind running the unlock, as I have done this with all my iphones, only thing that irritates me is that I paid alot of money for the "unlocked version" and to me it seems like it is not unlocked!!! really irritating...

They are locked to AT&T in the US, I don't know, maybe you do have unlocked iPhones, maybe you don't. All I know is US models are locked.

Is there anyway to check if your phone is unlocked or locked to a carrier?

I have an AT&T sim, was able to activate the phone no problem, and I dont get a "Invalid Sim" error when the AT&T sim is in the phone, only with the Vodacom sim.... So I agree with you the phone does seem to be locked. I will wait for the unlock and give that a go.. Last question, does anyone have an idea when MTN will be getting there miro sims in... I need one badly, but I did purchase a cut my sim that arrived the other day.

Don't stress the unlock will be here very soon. You can jailbreak so long and play around with Wi-fi in the meantime.

Ya it will be, at the moment I have the most expensive Ipod Touch ever!!! :)

I have an iphone 3gs , carrier locked. Its currently on 3.1.3 and jailbroken with blackrain. I want to udate it to os 4.01 and then jailbreak using the new jailbreakme.com site via safari. If i understan right i have to update via itunes, but as far as the activation goes? how would i bypass this? or does itunes only ask for activation if i restore? once the software is activated i can go to the wi-fi and the jailbreak, then use ultrasnow to unlock, right ?

Please help..

Thank reynhart

Edit: Actually - wait - I think i'm going to restore to 3.1.3 and jailbreak that rather, 4.0's speed is killing me!

Ok, I have a 3G iPhone on iOS4 - can I jailbreak it with this easily? (The phone was bought in South Africa through Vodacom)

1 - Is it easy to restore if I make a stuff up? just go into iTunes and restore?

2 - What Should I NOT do? anything else?

i'm a total n00b at this, any help will be GREATLY appreciated!

At the end of the tutorial:
Congratulations you are done! You may now continue by installing UltraSn0w to unlock you device. iPhone 4 users still need to wait a bit for an UltraSn0w update which will arrive shortly.
WTF does this mean? unlock?

@ keeper

the unlock is used if you have a carrier locked iphone. If you got yours locally then it's unlocked and you don't need to use ultrasnow.

just a note to ipad 3G users.. the new jailbreakme exploit does not work yet on ipad 3g with 3.2.1

iPhones purchased in the US are locked to AT&T. They won't even work on other US carriers. And certainly not on any carriers outside the US.

If you got it in the US as unlocked, you were misled. The only thing you do get in the US, which is quite expensive ($600+), is a "contract-free" iPhone, meaning that you don't have to sign an AT&T contract. But it is still locked to AT&T.

lol! That was awesome! Jailbroke my iPhone4 via safari! No restart nothing!!

Back to the good old days of 1.1 :)

... and for those interested, this worked perfectly for my iPad 64GB WiFi+3G with OS 3.2.1 ... took less than 2 minutes via Safari and no reboot required!

I've got a 3G and really am wondering if this is a worthwhile update for my particular model. Anyone?

hmm.....

I wanted to go back....

All that i liked was the folders - didn't see much else (or that I can remember)

so - if you were always using 12 pages of apps - i'd say do it, and turn of spotlight.
otherwise, stick to 3.1.3....
