Digital TV interactivity: Middleware licensing costs

Terrestrial broadcasting of TV and radio is a waste of useful spectrum. This should either be streamed over the internet or beamed from a satellite, which we already have. The terrestrial broadcasting can be used much more effectively by cellular data networks to provide wider bandwidth and better coverage. Whether you use that broadband to stream TV or radio or just download torrents - its up to you. Why tie spectrum to such a limited mostly one way form of terrestrial broadcasting

I say cancel it all together.

In the US, spectrum that was freed up by the DTTV migration was made available to some mobile operators. I think this was in the 700mhz band if I am not mistaken. Hopefully the same will happen here and ICASA will make the spectrum available....but of course for that to happen....the guavamint needs to make up its bloody mind as to what route it wants to follow. urg.

In the spirit of the words of an apartheid minister: This leaves me cold. I however pity people who only have the SABC to watch...

What the hell has the Brazilian government got to do with our digital tv anyway? Someone is trying to make a buck.

I tend to agree, one satilite could cover the whole country

Exactly - no one cares about a 10 of 15 second delay when watching TV or listing to radio because its one way communication. DVB-S (Digital Satellite) has been around since 1995 so why bother with DVB-T? Many people in rural areas user satellite anyway because they have no reception and with digital broadcast they will fall even further away from the digital cliff so why bother.

haha, imagine ICASA trying to organise the launch of a satelite, it would probably end up orbiting the moon

You're way too optimistic, it would never even leave the platform ...

I'd also rather sell my TV than watch SABC only.
