Yeah, it has finally happened. Will be interesting to see how much this will affect DAs votes.
Western Cape Premier Helen Zille has announced a major re-shuffle of the provincial cabinet.
Zille has appointed Independent Democrats leader Patricia de Lille as the new MEC for Social Development in the Western Cape. She is expected to be sworn in in the next two weeks.
Meanwhile, MP Albert Fritz is swapping seats with Lennit Max to become the new MEC for Community Safety. Max will assume a role in national government.
Eyewitness News learnt late on Thursday that Max had been relieved of his duties, but the reason remains unclear.
When pressed by the media to reveal her motivation for ousting the former MEC, Zille said she was under no obligation to explain herself.
She said no minister or president has ever had to give a reason for a cabinet re-shuffle in the past.
Other changes include former MEC for Cultural Affairs and Sport, Sakkie Jenner, who will now chair a Western Cape Parliamentary Committee, while former MEC for Social Development, Dr Ivan Meyer, takes up Jenner’s position.
