Have your will drafted for free

cool. now i can push that final piece of paper from the grave. :)

Well, as far as I'm aware, you can usually get your will drafted for free by banks and other organisations provided you make them the executor of your estate. They more than make the cost then.
Is that the case here as well? It's not too clear from the website. Just something to note when you are getting it drafted 'for free'. (Sorry, I'm always skeptical, lawyers don't generally like doing things for free :p.)

Oh yes, nothing done by a bank comes for free. There will be a price ... eventually !

I really do not know if the attorneys will insist on being made the executor of the estate .. my better half is a partner in a law firm and a director in another, but I note his firms are not participating, so I have no way of finding out.

People would just have to call the firms and find out .

Lawyers are sly. You must be extremely naive to step into the offices of a law firm thinking you are going to leave with more than you arrived with...

No doubt, but people on this forum are contantly posing questions about will and executors, and so I posted this as a service to the MyBB community :)

Also remember that ultimately, someone out there is going to be making money off your estate when you die (executor's commission). Might as well choose a lawyer you trust, no? And get him to do the will for free now; he can make it back later.

Better yet: If you do not want the executor's commission to "'leave the family", choose a trusted family member who is also a professional to be the executor ... if the estate is fairly simple, it can be done without assistance. You are even allowed to make a beneficiary the executor of your estate.

Any idea what the banks charge? 1%? 2%? My will has been set up for free by one of the banks, but no idea what the executor fees are.

I am not too clued about estates, but I think executors fees are set by a tariff calculated on the value of the estate, up to 3 or 4%.
