Good Evening Crew,

I have a decision to make and before I started reading I had in my mind that the LCD Full HD choice would be the best one but since reading here and other sources I am not sure anymore as some places say Plasma and some even say that Full HD is a hype and HD Ready tvs are just as good...

So the Choices are

SAMSUNG 50" (127cm) HD Ready Plasma TV PS50C430 for R10 000

Sinotec 47" (119cm) Full HD LCD TV MP-47HU27 for R7,999

Telefunken 50" Plasma TPM-500FHD for R9,999

Please help me with coming to a decision on these three.

Thanks a bunch.

What are you going to use it for? Movies and TV or gaming? Also, does your TV room have lots of light in it?

Go with the SAMSUNG, it's R1 more than the Telefunken and better than both the Telefunken and Sinotec, but personaly I still stick too LCD as I don't want too have too aircon my TV Room :)

Telefunken 50" plasma will give the best image quality. But it's a Telefunken. :(

I would save another few k for the Samsung 50" full HD plasma, think they're around R14k.

Or maybe you don't need full HD? If what you're going to be watching is mostly HD, then you don't need full HD. Samsung 50" HD plasmas are R9999.

With all due respect... this is a load of crap! The salesman tried to spin me this one too when I bought my Plasma and I can tell you that in reality I need to stand directly above the rear of the TV to feel any heat and even then I am talking about a little warmth. It is far less heat than comes pouring out of the side of my laptop. The idea that it could possibly heat up an entire room is total nonsense! The only way this would happen is if you were in a 1x1m airtight room!

I have owned a PLASMA and honestly, I can feel the differnece after changing to LCD.

P.S. feel free to correct my speeling, as I KNOW you will!

wow great thanks for the immediate responses.

I mostly watch rented dvds and normal tv. So i get see so far that Samsung is what is suggested.. but just to make sure and to clarify things in my mind....
HD Ready which is 720p correct? and that plasma is better than lcd?

if i had to throw this tv into the mix would the choice still remain with the samsung plasma?

SAMSUNG 46'' (117cm) Full HD TV LA46C550 R13,999?

also PostmanPot what is the model of the full hd plasma that you were talking about and where would u get it for the price?

I have no intention to correct your grammar as in this thread I'd prefer to focus on your inaccurate comments.

well i suppose i will watch hd content in the future, I think the real question is then plasma full hd or lcd full hd?

Again, all depends on quality. I for one only buy SONY products... guess you can say I'm a FANBOI :)

Correct, HD/HD Ready is 720p. HD PVR is 720p, PS3 and Xbox 360 are mostly 720p, and Blu-rays/HD DVDs are also mostly 720p.

The only time a LCD would be favoured is for only full HD/1080p content, where a full HD plasma is too expensive.

The one I mentioned is the Samsung PS50C550 and is more like R15k. If you can stretch your budget, it will be the business. http://www.samsung.com/za/consumer/...XXA/index.idx?pagetype=prd_detail&tab=feature

If you don't need full HD:

±R11500 Samsung PS50C450 50" HD Ready http://www.samsung.com/uk/consumer/.../PS50C450B1WXXU/index.idx?pagetype=prd_detail
±R7000 Samsung PS42C450 42" HD Ready http://www.samsung.com/uk/consumer/.../PS50C450B1WXXU/index.idx?pagetype=prd_detail

Hifi Corp/Makro usually have the Samsung 4 series (theirs is usually the 42C430 with 1x fewer HDMI ports), go and see the wuality for yourself.

Plasma is superior technology. ;) Don't think the salesmen will tell you though.

The only answer to this question is Panasonic Viera Full HD Plasma. Everything else is inferior. Until OLED or AMOLED screens get here, this will be the best.
Price: R20K for a 50 inch set.
