Cellphone banking: How safe are your habits?

I have been using it for over 2 years, no problems at all.

Plus it's tied down to your cellphone number only.

It is pretty shaky to have your online banking mobi's site's logon details saved on your phone's browser.

Sorry for my ignorance, but how do you know if a SIM swap has been done on your number...except of course if you actually had it done yourself?

You will receive a sms notifying you that a sim swap was requested on your account / number.
If you do not respond to that sms within 2 hours, then the sim swap will go ahead.

So they give you a 2 hour period to report if the sim swap was fraudulent.

What I like is that log in sessions get terminated for about 10 minutes of inactivity. And you're browsing through an HTTPS connection. That other guy, your sim card will die and be inactive, loose all reception. Becoming useless. But that's unlikely, as networks make it hard to do a sim swap without some personal details.

One of the main reasons I moved my bank account back from Capitec to FNB was because of cellphone Banking.

Been using it over a year now without any hassles. Convenient, quick and great for airtime from FNB. I'll endorse it.

Depends what type of cellphone banking we are talking about.

Browser based is fine, but WIG and USSD are unencrypted.

Ok, I thought that if I bought a sim card and the number I was given was in fact a recycled number that had had a sim swop at some point in the past..............Never mind, I'm making this thing tooo complicated in my own mind LOL

Cell phone banking? Nah not for me. Chances of getting ripped off when phone goes in for repair is quite high. I have heard of it happening. Friends sons girlfriend lost 20G's, I don't know the outcome. Rouxenator there is only one "type" sms based. The other, Internet banking whether from a PC or cell phone is just that, internet banking.

it is USSD based, for FNB that is. u still need the mopin to get in and make a transaction.

In that case your mopin is sent over the network unencrypted and anyone inspecting the tickets on the network will see it.
