After 3 weeks of complaining to Telkom they have finally confirmed that there is server congestion on some of their infrastructure on the Rondebosch exchange. This will affect a number of users in the Southern Suburbs. There is no ETA yet on when they will fix this but it is getting priority attention.

Kind regards

What explains the latency issues experienced by people not even remotely close to the Southern Suburbs (of, I assume you meant, Cape Town)? Or does that mean that all ISP's, including Web Africa, all peer at the same point and that some yahoo-techy from Telkom ****ed something up?

so much for redundancy huh?

What about the exchanges for the other areas that are affected? Like Wynberg, Claremont, Kenilworth, Plumstead, etc?

Your efforts are appreciated but I hope you've made it clear to them it's most of the Southern Suburbs, not just Rondebosch.

Getting Telkom to confirm problems even at just one exchange is a feat!

True, but having a 250ms ping to local servers isn't fun :)

Also currently downloading from ftp.sun.ac.za @ 65k/sec on a 4mb line, let the good times roll! :)

That is great news, thks MWEB Ops.

Read the other thread as well guys, apparently a lot of traffic from the southern suburbs hits Rondebosch at some point, which is why there is a problem in other suburbs. Now all we can do is be patient, and let the corporates throw their weight at Telkom.

Tx

Im guessing that the Rondebosch Exchange is the Hop before the Datacenter and any traffic that goes to the Datacenter has to pass through it, hence the issues at the other exchanges(Wynberg, kenilworth, claremont, crawford, plumstead etc). Possibly also the reason WA users are affected coz all there traffic has to pass through the rondebosch exchange

Finally I have a reason why Telkom doesn't want me to be bumped up to 4Mbs. "No, your line only supports 384 Kb/s" and then a Telkom techie tells me "whoever told you that is lying"
