Web African stopping their R15 per gig recharges!

The fact is people want to be able to topup their accounts at DECENT rates when they reach their caps.

This is one of the two main reasons why I left iBurst the moment my contract was over, they also screwed people over with overcharged top-ups.

And here comes the Download Plus again, many people here dont care about it as much/at all as we feel we are being ripped off by the recharges being dropped.

I dont understand why you dont place restrictions on your packages, i.e. a user with 1GB account can only recharge up to 1GB in a month, rather you would screw everybody else over that does 1 maybe 2 recharges in a month.
Or you can reduce the cost Top-Up as the package size increases, something similar to the out of bundle rates dropping as you take a larger databundle with the cellphone providers...

Great Idea.

In the past Afrihost was quite decent, but I know my manager sometimes had problems with his Afrihost account that he wasnt able to connect to our VPN at work. By using a different ISP the problem went away. I think it was due to their routing rules that would try and route some traffic over the wrong link.

I know Axxess has those R20/GB a month account, but I have no idea how they are.

Good Job WA...you just lost a ton of $$$ and potential customers with this move...including my business.
I'm sure your competitors are grinning from ear to ear...
Unless you replace this product with something equally competitive, and not that Download_Plus ribbish...bye bye "bottom line"

Great idea and I made a similar type of suggestion on the WA forum and no response yet. I really think is a good compromise and hopefully a win win (except for those who bought a 1 gig account and then did lots of top ups)

Well, I am on 30GB account, so DownloadPlus will cost me R240. For R20 more I can get 2 IS local only accounts and download 60GB.

Just signed up with Axxess for a 1GB account to see if it will work for me. Will test it out tonight.

They allow you to do a temporary upgrade on your package to a larger amount till the end of the month @ you guessed it R19/GB. Perfect for me since I dont know how data I will need at the end of a month.

Remembering my days in business school this is a fantastic case study of how a company is committing suicide .

If anybody has found a workable alternative to WebAfrica, please PM me or post here…

Reasoning: poor support, communication, terrible connectivity > 30 days, all services declining rapidly (and no, it is not Telkom, nor my exchange, Leeusig 8; i.e. Tamboerskloof, nor my equipment) and deceitful marketing to increase pricing – no longer the kind of company I feel comfortable to be associated with.

Can’t use: Any reseller / “ISP” than utilises either IS’ network; i.e. Afrihost, Axxess, MWEB Business, OpenWeb, etc. and or MWEB’s infrastructure; as it is far too unreliable with oversubscribed contention ratios and lack any form of tangible support - as I will be financially penalised due to non delivery of support agreements, therefore having to switch to Telkom.

Some wishful thinking, however still being optimistic:
Require: < 250 ms to USA / UK and < 200 ms to Europe and =/> 8.45 / 0.62 Mbps throughput. Reliability, transparency, hourly contention ratios and or network usage graphs (local & intl.) and advance notice of any possible connectivity issues via SMS would be welcomed. 8 – 10 concurrent connections with a monthly limit of 100 GB (can be subdivided into smaller accounts) with clear shaping levels / hours and ports / applications with prepaid credit card payment online solution, with instant online invoice delivery.

The understanding that good quality connectivity is not a luxury but essential would be appreciated. If you are a non BEE company (preferably) or a have a well implemented BEE strategy (doubtful), you will surely have my support.

No traditional telephonic support or hosting or email account or any other trinkets, marketing crap or non core services are required, just high quality reliable connectivity, without excuses and integrated refunds on the next month’s invoice should you fail to deliver quality throughput.

I would prefer a no fuss solution and never having the need to send an email requesting support.

Truly GATVOL of local "ISP's" - would prefer never having to talk to another ignorant, uneducated, arrogant - "support" agent.

Lol, keep dreaming.

Excellent suggestion.

To be honest though, all this crying is quite amusing. The way I see it: Service levels and overall quality of WA may not be excellent, show me an ISP that is, but they're better than most and IMHO its worth forking out a little more. If you're not happy with that you have plenty of other options so I don't see what all the fuss is about.

It also annoyed me a bit that the recharge disappeared, but you guys better wake up to the real world. You don't always get what you want. Customer or not.

What strange reasoning: poor service, poor connectivity, deceitful marketing and increase of pricing are all acceptable; as long as it is not any worse than any other provider – Have I got it right?

With respect: maybe you have been living in Africa for too long and come to accept poor levels of support, connectivity and inflated pricing?

Everyone should just leave so I can get good speeds again on my 30gb account that I got on the mybb special.

I don't need more, so no top up for me but I would love the good speeds that I used to get back. So please guys, you should leave so their network is underutilized again... :p

I didn't say that. Sorry that that's been your experience, but I can't help sticking a limb out for WA when ppl make all these generalized statements about how crap they are, because in my experience they are one of the best. Yes they could be better, there is always room for improvement. Perhaps I have been here for too long, but don't expect anything other than African service when you're in Africa. I think our biggest problem is not the ISPs, its legislation/ICASA. Only a few years ago we didn't have such an abundance in ISPs with competitive offers. We've come a long way already and I'm sure we'll go further - imagine what LLU would do for us. Many countries have been here not so long ago. Germany, for example, was almost in exactly the same boat with Deutsche Telekom, who had a monopoly much like Telkom's. Of course we won't get there as quick as they did.. but you get my point. :)

Accepted, provided WA deliver on their promise of providing a superior connection - currently that is not case (Afrihost/IS and even MWEB’s Uncapped offerings are providing superior throughput, due to WA’s excessive shaping - as their managements failure of proper planning / investment) and over and above this, they have the audacity to inflate their pricing in the most devious way - This makes it rather difficult to defend their actions or to expect loyalty from their subscriber base?

50gig per month, now what?

@waroop or anyone else from webafrica

This is my situation at work we have the 25gig titan special (R299), further to this we use another 30 gigs of prepaid. So 50 - 55 gigs in total. Until now our bill was never more than R750

What should we do now? Your 50 gig package is R2450, which is to much, it would seem my only option is Afrihost's 25+25 (R475) or even there 50+50 (R950) accounts.

Keep in mind no one is here in the evenings, so the after hours deal does not apply to us.

Please respond with a solution?

Go to FNB Connect - bandwidth is unshaped and is valid for 30 days from purchase...

50 GB - R 619 - Unshaped - Expiry 30 Days = R 55 saving

For more information or support on any of our products, you can contact our call centre on 087 575 0001 or alternatively visit our FAQ section. fnbconnect (dot) co (dot) za

How about putting a suitable solution on your website product page?

Have a look at our new Platinum ADSL offerings:

I'm struggling to find your gold, silver and/or bronze offerings. You're an ISP not a jeweler. Surely using the word "Platinum" only makes sense if it's used to differentiate it from "lesser" packages that you offer. Otherwise it's just silly to use "platinum" to describe a 1Gb package on 384k line.

And where are your top-up prices?
