The 9600GT may not be the newest GPU from NVIDIA, but it was a brilliant GPU when released and continues to be today.
NVIDIA came under fire some time ago for re-releasing their G92 parts (mainly the GTS 2XX series) under a different name with no meaningful changes, which only helped to ‘confuse’ an already-confusing line-up of graphics cards. Luckily, the 9600 GT (G94) never suffered from any of these renaming schemes, and remains one of the best entry- to mid-range graphics processors to date.
GIGABYTE has chosen a unique design with their 9600 GT, opting for a custom circuit board, custom cooling, and the addition of an HDMI output. This makes the GIGABYTE 9600 GT one of the most unique G94-based graphics cards on the market, and certainly the most complete one we have ever tested. The card features 1GB of high-speed Samsung 2,000MHz memory (1GHz SDR), is pre-overclocked, and delivers above-average performance.
The Zalman-designed cooler keeps the card exceptionally cool, making the card perfect for an HTPC machine, or for anyone who wants exceptional cooling without the noise. The native HDMI output negates the need for a DVI-HDMI adapter, and it also means that one only needs to use one cable from the graphics card to the output device. There’s not much we could fault the GIGABYTE 9600 GT on, as it’s everything you’d expect from a 9600 GT – and a little more.
