SMS porn ads in prime-time a no-no

ViaMedia responded saying that the commercial should not have appeared in anything but an 18+ movie as per e.tv’s guidelines. “It is not our intention to expose people to content that is inappropriate or offensive,” ViaMedia said.

Actually, they've been appearing from 10:30pm onwards on virtually any day of the week on both E.TV and SABC3. Besides the fact that the whole premise is pathetic given the relative cost of people simply getting their porn fix on the internet, the adverts are also intensely annoying as, with most ads, they are loud and thus come with loads of moaning; not something you want your neighbours to hear if you've got a sound system going and live close enough that they could make out what's coming from your place. I'd really like to know why these kinds of cell phone services aren't banned in South Africa, though.

Surely the television channels are responsible for what gets flighted? Agreed that it is wholly inappropriate, but who makes the final call to flight the ads at that time?

They flighted a religious ad during prime time. It made me sick and I couldn't avoid it as I was watching a movie and couldn't predict what would be flighted

Actually most of these advertisements are classified as glamour (2-16). Double Jeopordy carries an age restriction of 2-16, so what was the problem again?

haha! ...eish, these funny people with their sexual taboo's. Just look down people, you see that?! That's your crotch, we all have one and sooner or later you're going to have to deal with it.
But yeah, those ads are quite irritating, so is Jamie Oliver.

The most annoying thing on TV, especially when it keeps screaming "SMS Sex Now To..." for about 5 minutes straight.

Maths warning - BA graduates move along.

So you're awake for about 16 hours a day, but between working, driving, eating, sh*tting and grooming, you've got about 4 hours free time per day = 1460 hours per year.

If you watch an hour and a half of TV per day (and I do), you're probably exposed to 24 minutes of ads a day = 8760 minutes per year = 146 hours per year.

In other words, your spending 10% of your free time (the time that you spend 12 hours a day working for) watching ads. 10% of your life wasted watching ads that don't benefit you in any way. All to save the R 2 000 price of a TiVo!

GET A ****ING PVR.

Could lead to very awkward moments if you watch TV with your family...

Or pleasant moments if you're watching it with only your hot and sexy wife... :D

Jokes aside, I agree with complaint and feel the ASA (for once) made the right ruling.

So why isn't WASPA dealing with their own cr*p. Oh, that's right, they aren't there to watch over anything. Useless ..

I agree, which begs the question - who is funding their empires? I'm guessing Johnnies mom and dad (unwittingly).

Pull the other one.

Staring at your crotch has little to do with it. If taboo means offensive then it's taboo. My take on the whole thing though...
STOP WATCHING E TV.

Me? I download stuff to watch off the web these days so I dont have to put up with this kind of rubbish.

A few months back I was watching a repeat of WWE Smackdown at 13:30pm and during one of the advert breaks they aired these adverts for about 3 minutes. It was a nice little surprise, but seriously the person in charge of airing the adverts that day should be fired.
