I am not much of a chess player but know a good service when I see one. Mark Levitt’s brainchild, chesscube.com is doing phenomenally well in the online chess arena with around 600 people using it at any given moment. An intuitive design and modern presentation gives this site a slick feel with a multitude of interaction options for chess hungry people.
Ioltechnology.co.za reported recently that chesscube.com is gearing up for some interesting chess coverage with the upcoming Chess World Championships, which will be held in Bonn, Germany from 14 October until the 2nd of November 2008.
The Chesscube Cinema application will allow for real-time coverage of the event by masters of the game. The thing that impressed me most is the distributed nature of this service, which unfortunately cannot be hosted in South Africa due to bandwidth limitations. It is a big service from South Africa. It made me proud. If only we can get our bandwidth capacity and pricing down sufficiently to unleash our potential properly without having to host overseas. Now that would be wonderful!
