The figures don’t look good for Microsoft, the latest set of results shows that IE has posted its largest market share loss since 2008.
In the browser wars Microsoft appears to be losing ground and it should be more than al little worrying for the software giant.
Whilst IE is still dominant , owning 66.6% of the market, they have lost a whopping 8.6 points of browser share in the last 12 months.
According to ZDNet blogger, Andrew J Nusca, people are opting out of using IE because, a) it’s too slow to run satisfyingly on a netbook, b) a slight increase in Macs on the market and c) no Windows 7 at this time to drive default use.
Nusca adds that things will start to get interesting round about January 2010 as the 2009 sales rush will see Windows 7 shipping out on netbooks and notebooks, Snow Leopard will start to make an impact on the figures and Google’s strategy to see Chrome installed on PCs will start to pay off.
It’s interesting times for Microsoft and only time will reveal if they are still nimble enough to adapt to the market and regain the market share of their glory days.

• Internet Explorer: 66.6%
• Mozilla Firefox: 23.3%
• Apple Safari: 4.1%
• Google Chrome: 2.9%
• Opera: 2.1%
