Recent evidence goes some way to confirming existence of the PS3 Slim
In the latest instalment to the PS3/Sony rumour mill a ‘reliable source’ has told PlayStation Insider that Sony is readying itself to make a price cut announcement on the 18th August regarding the “PlayStation family of products”.

This is a move which will almost certainly include a console price cut. On the 18th Sony will be holding a three hour press conference at GamesCom in Cologne Germany which lends a measure of credibility to the rumour that a large announcement will be made.

In addition Sony has revealed when pressed further that they specifically meant the PS3 and its family of products adding that “they will do something for the first time”.

Japanese 7-Eleven pre orders for the 80GB version of the PS3 will also reportedly cease on the 9th August, the reason being listed literally as “for the manufacturer”.

This adds some weight to My Gaming’s past predictions that Sony will cut PS3 console prices in order to clear stock and make way for the impending PS3 Slim. Although it has not yet been officially confirmed, images have surfaced online of a thinner more compact console.

The Slim also appeared on Amazon Germany’s website yesterday as the ‘PS3 Konsol Slim’ and held an official Amazon Standard Identification number but has since been removed, replaced instead with a ‘Dokument Nicht Gefunden’ notification.

Additionally, as reported by My Gaming last week, Sony executives have confirmed that over the past four years the PS3’s production costs have dropped by 70% which puts the console in a position to begin making profit and possibly paves the way for a generous pay cut in lieu of the Slim’s release.
It would not be unreasonable therefore, in light of the now blatant evidence, that Sony is brewing something big for the coming weeks.
