Dell did something interesting recently that I have to share with you. We all know that Dell has a seriously well positioned reputation as a well supported tech brand used by corporates and large education institutions around the world. When I say well supported, I mean their after sales support is brilliant. The major draw card for corporates in going Dell is to make sure that if something goes wrong it is sorted in no time. This is not to say small companies cannot do the same, but that is a discussion for another day.

Dell did something recently that could position it as probably the strongest computer brand ever if it pays off in these hard financial times. They now offer Zero Percent Financing for large corporates through which you can buy large volumes of the latest hardware sometimes even at as much as 20% discount and pay no interest on finance. Dell claims it is helping companies “get the technology it needs now and for the future with today’s budget”. All this is run through Dell Financial Services L.L.C or DFS for short.

You might wonder how Dell is pulling this off, but what they are doing is simply leveraging their $9 Billion cash hoard in order to bludgeon and maim their competition. Seeing as the offer is aimed at seriously high end corporate customers the deal is sweetened by bypassing the ordinary irritants like busy call centers by allocating “Dedicated Account Teams” through which corporate clients get personalized service with a direct line into Dell systems and operations allowing them to seriously boost turnaround time from order to delivery.

The advantages to large corporates are endless and other companies with large cash volumes on hand like Microsoft have started doing the same to secure and even deepen their competitive advantage. The deal is only for companies in the United States of America however.
