IN a recent poker match pitting humans against a poker playing computer the humans came up trumps, but not by much.
The Man versus Machine poker match took place in Vancouver and involved poker professionals Phil Laak and Ali Eslami against a computer program called Polaris.
“For the first time ever, a poker-playing computer program will challenge two top-level poker professionals in a controlled scientific experiment with real money on the line. A team of researchers from the University of Alberta has improved on their reigning world champion poker software, and is taking it to the next level,” The official match blog said.
Out of the four sessions played Laak and Eslami won 2, Polaris won one and one session was drawn. According to the blog the humans came out tops with a winning amount of $395 in the 10 / 20 Texas Holdem match.
This result came only days after the game of checkers was solved by a computer which means that it is now theoretically impossible for a human to beat this computer at the game.
