In 2011 the Consumer is King

Do you remember back in 1999 when the Bexa Computer Faire was a must on the calendar of every consumer who could make it to the show in Johannesburg?

haha... yep... I remember going to the Bexa Fairs to see all the cool new stuff. In fact I think I bought a Quantum Bigfoot 12 Gig drive at one of those fairs!

2011: Consumer is King

On another subject related to this title ... all going well, the Consumer Protection Act's regulations will be gazetted in April 2011. It's effect will be far-reaching and will certainly empower the consumer's rights.

I feel otherwise. Sorry to be so negative, but somehow it will be either delayed, watered down or dismissed... I do hope they will pass it... but something doesn't feel so lekker to me.

+1

I have to agree, every time even a little good news comes out of this government it gets somehow delayed, scrapped, completely rewritten, or just flat out denied that it was ever their intention. This just seems too good to be true. Even in the unlikely event that it does go ahead as planned, shops will just increase their prices to "compensate for the terrible inconvenience" of actually having to give a **** about their customers.

Remember what happened when we were promised cheaper cellphone calls because of interconnect charge reductions? Or when pharmacies were forced to drop their "dispensing fees"? Yeah, worked out awesomely for the consumer, those did.

I remember, I wanted this "Black Widow Scanner" or something, that was apparently very good...it had huge crowds too!

Apart from RAGE which is moreso a gaming expo, are there any computer expos in jhb these days?

"...which will enable billions of new devices...."

Who writes this crap? Yes, the on die transistor density is continuing to escalate, but he's implying devices - i.e. products not transistors... Billions??????

What's wrong with billions? He's not just talking about computers, he's talking about a whole swathe of appliances that incorporate some form of computing and in that case he's probably quite correct.
