Internet Solutions (IS) will be providing surfing fans and competitors with Internet connectivity for the Mr. Price Pro, formerly the Gunston 500, surfing contest.
Personally I didn’t think surfers were much into the World Wide Web, preferring to get their kicks from Mother Nature, but it seems that the hangers on, like the judges and the media, will need to connect.
IS will provide Wi-Fi hotspots for all those less talented individuals stuck on the beach who none-the-less still love and support surfing.
According to IS’s Internet evangelist, Greg de Chasteauneuf, the company wanted to “stretch our imaginations to the limits and showcase some of the technologies which would have a certain ‘cool’ factor associated with it.”
It’s excellent to see SA telecoms companies starting to think out of the box by providing connectivity in places that one would previously have imagined to be devoid of the influences of the Internet.
Perhaps now a few Internet junkies will hit the beach … even if it is only to test out the IS Wi-Fi network.
